  • Lead Acid: The oldest rechargeable battery, invented in 1859
  • NiCd: Invented in 1899 and was immediately viewed as superior to Lead Acid batteries
  • NiMH: First discussed in the 1970s and commercially developed for small applications in 1989.
  • LithIon: First proposed in the 1970s and commercially developed 1991, but have been further refined until recent years.
